This month, RWCI held a two day workshop to craft recommendations for the new Pre-K – 8 school that will open at The Renaissance in 2017. The meetings, led by RWCI Director of Programs Christian Friend, and Gabor Zsuppan, Director of School Experiences at Discovery Place, attracted educational experts from a variety of roles including teachers, professors, program directors, and learning community superintendents who shared their valuable ideas and insights.

Topics of discussion included:

  • Community Engagement
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Professional Development
  • Out of School Time
  • Technology Integration

RWCI, Discovery Place, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, UNCC, Project L.I.F.T., Purpose Built Communities, and many other organizations participated in the meetings.  The school will be led by a leadership council comprised of West Boulevard Corridor community members, representatives from RWCI and representatives from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. In the coming weeks, we will present our recommendations to the School Leadership Council for approval and then begin planning the implementation.
