Renaissance West Community Initiative (RWCI) established a Health Initiatives Committee, which include representatives from Care Ring, Charlotte Community Health Clinic, Mecklenburg County Health Department, Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation, One Charlotte Health Alliance, The Links, Inc., The Right Choice MWM, and YMCA of Greater Charlotte, to align and coordinate health and wellness programs, activities, and resources for the neighborhood. The committee helps provide workshops, brochures, health fairs, walking groups, and much more.
In August of 2017, Building Uplifted Families (BUF), a community collaboration between Renaissance West Community Initiative, Novant Health, Carolinas HealthCare System, UNC Charlotte, and Mecklenburg County Public Health, has been awarded a $250,000 BUILD Health Challenge grant to improve the health and overall well-being of Renaissance West residents and neighbors along Charlotte’s West Boulevard corridor. This grant was matched by Atrium Health and Novant Health totaling to $750,000. BUF focuses on improving mobility by addressing disparities, enhancing local capacity, advancing partnerships, and improving preventative healthcare access. Through BUF, Life Navigators will be assigned to residents who show interest in case management. Life Navigators seek to collectively improve the quality of life for individuals. Through information, education, advocacy and life planning services, they can help work on attainable goals. Life Navigators can help identify alternatives routes through difficult life challenges.
Members from each of these organizations participate in the Partner Advisory Board and support the strategic planning for health and wellness activities with RWCI.
